Antique c1930s WPA Folk Art Child Clown Food Vegetables School Puppet Set

Hand painted, (molded) paper mache puppets made by Depression recovery WPA artists for educational shows about life lessons – this set teaches a balanced diet.

These crop up rarely, and never in such large sets. Total of (10) puppets including (3) CHORUSES! The Clown presumably teaches Christopher (penciled names on the wood stays) about milk, eggs, tomatoes, pickle, carrot and a banana.

Puppets average 12” including arms & legs (plus strings), the choruses measure roughly 28″ wide. Clown is an impressive 26” tall, with incredible over sized carved WOOD hands and bare feet!

Boy and clown faces show some paint loss. Other than a few broken tomato stems, very nice condition. As with every puppet on planet earth, some strings need untangled and a few retied. Most have their own original flour sack bags (that match their limbs!) $1650.
