19thc Victorian Doctor Medical Office Cabinet Photos Iowa

30 May

A woman sits at a desk with a candlestick phone and eye chart behind her, a man relaxes on a wooden examination table built around a washstand base.  There is a blood or wash basin, a great little table full of examination or maybe surgical tools. Labeled Waiting Room and Operating Room in fountain pen.

Identified as Eagle Grove in pencil.   Cabinet cards measure 5 1/2″ x 6 1/2″. $45.

Circus Carnival Street Huckster RPPC Boy w/ Trained Black Bear Cub

08 Mar

I love this card.  The man bends down to feed a black bear cub who stands on his hind legs with a tiny chain leash attached.  The back reads “This cub is our new mascot and he certainly is a good one.  The crowds are beginning to gather and the day is fair.” Bethel, ME. $35.

7″ x 9″, gorgeous grand tour photo of four men on camels / blankets on their backs – posed in front of the Sphinx and pyramids.  Huge sweeping shot with the caravan of Egyptians (man, woman and three children) with supplies on their heads.  Beautiful shot!  Clear with nice contrast and composition.  $40.

c1900 Evangelist Chicago Illinois R.E. Johnson 4 RPPCs

08 Mar

Probably the best Evangelist real photo postcards I’ve handled, set of four pitch cards from R.E. Johnson working out of Chicago.  1. Evangelist R.E. Johnson full length portrait  602 Lakeside Bldg, Chicago IL. (AZO)  2. Mrs R.E. Johnson #5 (published by Photo Adv Co Minneapolis Minn. – Kruxo)  3. Evangelist Robert E. Johnson bust portrait (AZO).  4. Prof. Chas. W. Mainwaring Pianist – Johnson Evangelistic Party.  (AZO.)  Cards are crisp and unused.  one chip to bottom right of the pianist.  I’ve never seen such a complete set of souvenir cards from a revival, great find.  $85 set.

c1930s Pittsburgh PA Police Children Ford Motor Parts Adv Photo

08 Mar

Fresh from a local estate, of a Bloomfield (suburb of Pgh) policeman’s estate.  I’d guess the photo to be from the early 1930s, great image of him in jacket/hat holding traffic in the snow for school children.  Appears to read “Angelo’s Tire Shop” in the back with corner signage “Ford Parts Accessories.”  Measures 4 1/4″ x 8 1/2″.  Nice contrast.  Developing error all the way in the right corner, barely noticeable.  $25.

c1940 Billy Conn The Pittsburgh Kid Opening Party Photo

15 Feb

Photo comes from a Pittsburgh estate of a local writer for BoxOffice Magazine and once employee of Republic Pictures in the 1940s.  Republic put out “The Pittsburgh Kid,” a film starring Conn, in 1941. Its likely that these were shots from an opening party.  Measures 8″ x 10″, original photo likely taken by a professional photographer.  Not a copy, great piece. $60/$40.

c1920 American Missionary to India Archive

19 Oct

Nine pieces in total, pictured first with detail pics following.  Two specific female bookmarks on heavy cardstock (2″ x 6″,) one postcard sized print of a Cleveland family in China (friends I’m sure) and another printed card (slightly larger) from India as well; four photos including a rppc taken in India, a snapshot (3″ x 5″) of the family proper taken in India (reverse reads “pray for us in India) and two smaller snapshots (2 1/2″ x 4″) that seem to have been taken in Florida – one of a pair of (Seminole?) Indian boys, and the other of a camp cook which reads “our camp cook only has one leg.”  Its a remarkable little archive of early 20thc missionary work, as these were sent home to a family local to me (envelope is included with Indian postage and mailing address) and kept since.  Everything is in nice condition, with slight expected wear.  $60.

1940s Publicity Photo Young Lena Horne Signed

18 Oct

She’s stunning.  This photo was  found in a WWII serviceman’s scrapbook and is presumed to be from 1942-3 because of  some dated paperwork that accompanied it.   Likely a USO touring piece.   Measures 4  1/4″ x 6″. $40.

c1910 Steel Furnace Interior Labor Cabinet Card

20 Jul

This photo can make your stomach turn.  The rarest subject matter in labor, in my opinion – an interior shot of the mill’s furnace. However, our photographer was not a great one – and the center figure is blurred, the photo is a bit dark and the development proper is just sloppy.  I couldn’t however pass up the opportunity to save the subject matter, so despite all of that and a wavy border (poorly cut) and one bubble near the bottom right corner – its a pleasure to own.  Photo measures approx 5″ x 7″ on a 7″ x 9″ mount.  Likely twenty five figures in total, many holding tools – can’t beat it.   Not at this price-point anyway!  $30.
